Design is both form and function. The function part can have sameness—e/g well-built furniture that works, websites that are usable—but the form part is what differentiates—the flair and uniqueness that sets customers apart.
It seems to me that AI can manage the function part (though I'm still not sure about UX), but AI simply regenerates the form part based on what's already been done. Maybe that's enough for quite a while, but unless designers seed it with ever newer ideas, I imagine that AI outputs will get as stale and predictable as anything else.
I agree that design will probably be different, but maybe there will just be fewer designers rather than no designers at all, and those designers will matter a lot.
